Introduction
In Bible study, apart from reading the Bible and choosing a version that you understand, there is one important concept to understand, and that is that Scripture interprets Scripture.
Scripture is the Bible, and the best tool to use to explain the Bible is the Bible.
We believe that all of the Bible is God’s Word,
2 Tim. 3:16-17, All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Therefore, we know that we can use the Bible to answer questions that we have about the Bible.
For example, if I read in Genesis 15:6, “Abram believed the Lord and it was credited to him as righteousness”
and I don’t understand how righteousness is earned or what it means to credit righteousness, then I can look in Romans 4:5 where the writer is discussing faith and uses Gen. 15:6, explaining,
“But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.”
Not only do I have a better understanding of the verse from Genesis, but I also begin to understand that the Bible is telling one big story of God’s redemptive plan through faith in Jesus Christ.
There are multiple ways that the Bible can help us understand the Bible:
- New Testament quotations and references of the Old Testament: such as fulfilled Scriptures from Isaiah and the prophets in Matthew and the Gospels or references back to big events such as the Exodus (Heb. 11:5, Acts 7:3, Rom. 4:18, Heb. 9:20, Mark 12:29, Matt. 1:23 Matt. 27:46, 1 Cor. 10:26. etc.)
- Repetitions from one book to another (Matt 10:23; 25:31; Luke 18:8 etc)
- Restatements by the same author in same or another book (1 Th. 4:16, 2 Th. 1:7; 1 Peter 1:12, 2 Peter 1:18 etc.) and
- Multiple tellings of the same events (1&2 Chronicles, 1&2 Kings, 1&2 Samuel, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John)
Bibles have cross-references, or lists of verses that relate to a certain verse or idea or are being referenced, to show you all the ways that the Bible interprets the Bible.
So if you are wondering if a verse has a specific meaning, use other verses in the Bible to cross-check it as the Bible is God’s Word! Praise God!

Scripture interprets scripture welcome to Bible on the go Dr Dan, you know when it comes to Bible study everybody's got their way of doing it.
Everybody's got their own Vibe, their own style, their own system, and it's all good I mean I.
Think it's fair to say the most important thing about the study about studying the Bible is studying it right or even you could get a little bit more basic and you could say you know the number one thing you should do when you study the Bible is to read it and there's.
No doubt the the absolute most important thing you can do is read it in aversion that you can understand.
But there is this one thing that you need to do, especially when it comes to getting to that place.
When you decide it's time to apply a scripture, you see something you like, and you think hey I'd like to apply that you've already considered the context.
You know who's speaking and what question what questions may be answered or asked in a passage that kind of thing, but there's this one great hack, that will help you study the Bible every single time and it's this phrase scripture interprets scripture.
What is being said by this phrase.
Well, it might be said this way.
Scripture is scriptures, best interpreter, nothing explains scripture better than scripture.
You see, we've got our Bibles and it's got all 66 books and this YouTube channel holds firmly to the view that all the Bible is God's word in the original manuscripts when they were written down in in the New Testament in Greek and in the Old Testament in Hebrew and I believe that in second Peter 1 19-21, it clearly says that all the Bible is God's word.
We have the word of the prophets, made more certain and you do well to pay attention to it.
It says in the book of in in the book of Peter and so uh, therefore I need to take all of it seriously and what's really going on is what the Bible says in one place like say: Romans has an impact on what the Bible says in another place like Colossians, and what the Bible says in Isaiah might have something to do with what the Bible says in Matthew, because Matthew quotes from the Old Testament all the time and, for example, quotations of the Old Testament and the new are a really good example of the beautiful way.
The articulate way and the clear way that scripture interprets scripture, what's really being said here is scripture, has the priority of weight of where the meaning should be based on what other scriptures say, repetitions from one but to another, is another really good.
Example: Jesus, for example, when he says when the son of man comes right, referencing that phrase that was a phrase that the disciples picked up on that Jesus said, and so, when you see it identified another place or repeated this exact same idea, Paul and John, for example, use the phrase at his coming right.
Oh what a wonder when you begin to notice these kinds of things before you ever have to open up a Bible commentary or a dictionary just what you notice while you're reading.
This is where we see some people, um will take their Bibles and they see something and they'll underline it, because it's something that they notice.
Why? Because scripture is its best interpreted a phrase repeated throughout the Bible by faith in the New Testament, for example.
Is there are so many scriptures where the gospel writers are emphasizing the importance of faith, three statements by the same author in another book like in the Epistles of Paul and John and Peter, where they say from Heaven? This is really important and powerful, and this is why there are cross references in most Bibles, because the presence of those cross-references is declaring in loud Grand form that scripture is scriptures best interpreter thanks for watching Bible on the go with Dr Dan.
If you like these videos, the best thing you can do is hit that button called subscribe.
It doesn't cost a thing and you only have to do it once praise God.
